Mothers Helping Others
Our mission is to render aid to children and their families in the St. Charles area; provide qualified mothers with scholarships to accredited institutions; support organizations of similar purpose when practical and advisable; and support the organizations membership.
The St. Charles Mothers' Club was founded in 1924 by Dr. Edith Lowry to provide mothers with the proper guidance and physical care of their babies. Since then it has evolved into a not for profit 501(c)3 organization that supports the community in the following ways.
The SCMC hosts several fundraisers each year to raise money to sponsor, The Sherry Costello Scholarship Fund. Each year we award several scholarships to mothers in financial need who are furthering their education in order to improve their lives and the lives of their families.
Each year the SCMC supports the Breakfast Pantry Program at two District 303 elementary schools. This program provides breakfast to schoool children who might otherwise go to school hungry.
Each year approximately 15 needy families in the Tri-city area are identified to us by District 303 social workers. We help these families all year by providing them with Thanksgiving Dinners and pantry items, Christmas presents and stockings and Easter Dinners and Easter Baskets.
This effort is performed with the help of local Boy Scout and Girt Scout troops. Sometimes these families only need that one year of help to get their lives back on track.
Our members volunteer their time at the Tri-Cities Health Partnership Free Clinic. We provide 2 hours a week of administrative help so the doctors and nurses who volunteer their time can better serve the needs of the patients.
Our "Families Who Care" projects allow members to include their spouses and children in volunteer activites in the community.
The SCMC participates in many events throughtout the year to benefit our community as well as bring about public awareness of our club.
Look for us at the St. Charles Scarecrow Festival, Night Out Against Crime, River Fest and St. Patrick's Day parade.
